About us
A shared studio beyond the studio.
Mesa Architectural Workshop gathers the projects, conversations, and people shaping architecture at San Diego Mesa College—then keeps that history open for whoever arrives next.
Our story
At San Diego Mesa College, Mesa Architectural Workshop began with a simple need: more room for architecture students to see one another’s work, exchange knowledge, and make connections beyond a single class or semester.
Today, the club is becoming a living archive—part project gallery, part community noticeboard, and part record of everyone who has shaped it. Each new group adds another chapter.
2026 board
Meet the people
behind MAW.
The board moves as one. Choose a member and watch the room turn toward them.
Hover, focus, or tap a member. Everyone else turns toward them.
Interactive portrait study
Choose a board member.
The final version will use a small set of directional portraits for each person to create the stop-motion turn.
Our manifesto
What holds
the work together.
- 01
Architecture belongs in conversation.
Ideas become stronger when they are shared, questioned, and developed together.
- 02
Process deserves a record.
Sketches, false starts, models, and revisions reveal as much as the finished work.
- 03
The city is a classroom.
Buildings, streets, landscapes, and communities offer lessons no studio can contain.
- 04
Every voice can shape the room.
We welcome different experiences, disciplines, and ways of thinking.
- 05
Community is a material.
Like wood, concrete, or light, relationships shape what we are able to build.

Our AIAS chapter
From Mesa.
To a national network.
Mesa Architectural Workshop is San Diego Mesa College’s chapter of the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS). Through AIAS, students build leadership, connect with the profession, and participate in a national community of emerging designers.
